About this event

Follow the lantern procession from Durham Market Place towards the cathedral, led by the Chester-le-Street Salvation Army Band. The walk brings children and families together before the Saint Nicholas’ Service, where familiar carols continue the Christmas celebration inside the cathedral. There are two places and times to plan for: the parade leaves Market Place at 3pm on 6 December, and the service begins at the cathedral at 3.30pm. You do not need to book the service, but lanterns must be reserved in advance through Durham Christmas Festival. The road between Market Place and the cathedral is closed and Palace Green parking is unavailable. Wear warm layers for the outdoor procession and check the route arrangements if anyone in your group needs assistance.
