Follow William Armstrong into a dream world at Cragside, where this year’s Christmas house display takes inspiration from a story written by the inventor himself. A Journey Through Fairyland imagines strange landscapes, crystal caves and airborne adventures as he tries to find his way home for Christmas. Outside, children can take on the Escape from Fairyland trail in the Formal Garden, searching for supplies for William’s journey. Pause by the giant living redwood too: more than 1,300 lights dress the tree for the season. The Christmas activities are included after entry, with National Trust members admitted free and no advance booking required. Cragside closes on 24–26 December. Published house closing times conflict, so confirm the house timetable before planning a late visit.
