Start with the special events on this page, then keep a few dependable days out in mind for the rest of the break. Check each event page for the latest times, prices and booking details before you go.
For a full day out
Adventure parks, living museums, farms and larger attractions can fill a day when the children have plenty of energy. Allow time for food, queues, outdoor sections and the strong possibility that you won’t get round everything — and that’s fine.
- Check whether the venue opens every day during the holiday or uses selected dates.
- Book ahead where the activity page or venue says sessions are limited.
- Wear layers for attractions that mix indoor buildings with outdoor paths.
For a shorter visit
A museum, gallery, library, soft-play session or quick park visit can be just the ticket when you have other plans, younger children or a family that doesn’t fancy a full day.
Keep the budget sensible
Free museums, galleries, libraries and parks can anchor a good-value day. Pair one main visit with a walk or packed lunch, and check for parking, special-event and booking costs before you go.

- Book timed sessions, tours and special events early where the venue recommends it.
- Keep one free or low-cost option and one indoor back-up in your plan for a less stressful week.
- For Halloween-themed activities, see our separate guide and check the current programme rather than assuming it runs every year.
